Visit to MV Sae Nuri

On 24th May 2017, few of ALAM's staff and rankholders was invited by MOKPO University to have a tour and dinner on their training ship, MV Sae Nuri at Port Klang.  The vessel is alongside somewhere at 1930 Hours and we board the vessel a moment after that once the gangway is drawn.

MV Saenuri was built in 2003 and registered under Korean port. Its length overall is 102.8m and  I've been informed that this 4701 tonnes vessel can accommodate up to 400 passenger and crew which is a lot compare to its size.

We've been invited on board  by passing through a 'Sword Barrel' manage by their cadets. They also have something like PALAPES there where they can be a naval reservist.

During the tour, we were brought to the Bridge, Mess Room, Seminar Room, Ship's Office and also their classroom. As you can see from the picture above, that is one of the classroom that can accommodate up to almost 100 cadets at one time. It is equipped with a wide screen TV, air conditioned room, and a projector for the comfort and effectiveness in their learning journey. They have a quite similar routine same like a normal operational merchant vessel where they have bridge watch. The different is, in one watch there will be a total number of 20 cadets at once. In other words, the officer on duty will have 20 cadets at his disposal. I dont know whether they will be a headache to the officer or the other way around.

Since the food that they served on board is not halal, ALAM bought us KFC instead for our dinner. They served mostly seafood and rice, and I have the chance to try their rice cake which taste exactly like Apollo Layer Cake. Not bad at all.

That night we've been served with performances from the cadets. To be honest, most of them are really easy to talk to. Even though they have a little problem conversing in English, we manage to make friends and exchange jokes.

The picture above shows one of my new friends I met on board. Quite a surprise when he gave me something that nostalgic to him to me. What ever it is, I really appreciate his kind gesture.
We stay for the night on board the vessel, we've been given a cabin of 2 persons each. A decent cabin with a double deck bed and personal sink.

The next morning, we were tasked to bring all 150 cadets and their crew, lecturers and officers including the Captain to visit our academy in ALAM. Being one of the rank holders and a leader, I believe that task delegations is very important in order to make jobs easier and in arranged manner. There are 5 of us where each bus is lead by a rank holder where they have to make sure that all of the passengers in the bus is safely arrived to the destinations. Arrived at the destination, we were playing host to the crew of MV Sae Nuri where we give them a tour around the campus. At this particular time, communicating skills and leadership skills must be in action so that the audience focus on what you are going to say to them. They left ALAM in the evening after the tour and lunch. It is a great experience in managing the team.

It is a big achievement for us if we can have our own training ship in our academy. Lots of things can be learned by the cadets if program as such is available here in our country. Last, I really do hope that we can achieved until that level one day. Kamsahamnida!
