Glory Days

Gurdwara Cup is the Sikh festival of sports in Malaysia.Gurdwara Cup is the 2nd biggest sporting event in Malaysia after SUKMA.Initially Gurdwara Cup was only a tournament of hockey.But as the years went by, it has developed to be a major sporting event in the country.These days , it consists of sports like hockey,football,netball,badminton and golf to name a few.All states in Malaysia are encouraged to join this yearly affair including Sabah,Sarawak and our neighbours; Singapore.I have been lucky enough to have participated in a few Gurdwara Cups since i was 12 years old.I have represented Melaka and Negeri Sembilan state.I have played alongside my batchmate and fellow classmate in ALAM,Bildip Singh and i know him since then. Below are some pictures of us and our team from the tournament 5 years ago.It was held in Ipoh,Perak during the course of that year.

The junior football team finished 4th that year and the senior team were 3rd.Overall it was a good tournament for us as it was the first time the Negeri Sembilan football teams were through to the semi-finals.It was a great experience for me and the Negeri Sembilan team was a great team to be playing for.
I have played in more than 5 of these annual Gurdwara Cups namely with Melaka & Negeri Sembilan contingent.I have met many new people along the way and made plenty of friends.I have always thrived to give my best for the team and put individual glory aside.I can say one of the best attributes i have developed is being a team player and being very professional while representing another state while playing football.

As the saying goes,`talent wins games but teamwork wins championship`.
