Women Empowerment!
Lately, there have been may cases on
robbery, rape, threaten and so on. This mostly happens at the city, Kuala
Lumpur. Besides, the cost of living has been on a constant hike up, making is
hard to make ends meet. Therefore, on a woman empowerment project, I proposed
on having a woman’s hostel at Kuala Lumpur. A question was posted for public
review. Following are the responses obtained from people of different
backgrounds and gender.
Question : Do we need a women’s hostel in Kuala Lumpur for our girls going to
Kuala Lumpur to work?
Response
1: I think that would be a good idea as a lot of
them are finding it hard to get a proper and well secured place to stay in KL
for an affordable price. (Female, 21, Penang)
Response
2: It sounds like a good plan to me. The
hostel would be able to provide a secured and comfortable environment for the
ladies. Having a hostel occupying only ladies is not only safe and cheap but
they can also travel to work place together avoiding mishaps happening to them.
Establishing this hostel also shows the compassion towards our women community
and their welfare. I personally feel that we need that hostel for women for
their betterment.
(Male, 26, Selangor)

Response
3: I think it would be a great idea if
there's a women's hostel established as it would provide a secured
accommodation for the women’s and they wouldn't hesitate to work in KL anymore
and apart from that due to the high living cost they could not manage to pay
high rental so I think it would be a good idea if women's hostel are being
established. (Female, 43, Perak)
Response
4: Women's hostel is necessary to ensure
their safety round the clock. It also could be a financial solution for those
who are looking for budgeted accommodation in this high living cost region. It
also helps to lessen cases such as culture shocks for those ladies who got
carried away with the freedom and the excitement of city life. The hostel helps
them to stay responsible and well disciplined. (Male, 23, Melaka)
Response
5: Hostel for working women takes utmost
care of the safety and security of working/studying girl inmates. It would be
good if the hostel provides a high security, because nowadays it’s not
surprising to hear that lot of crimes happen towards women. At least such
hostels gives confidence to the girls and please their parents who always
thinking about the safety of their child who step out from home to earn money
in different environment. (Male, 52, Kuala Lumpur)
Response
6: Providing hostels for ladies at kl is
good idea ...it will be very helpful for those whom renting house and working
at KL ... (Female, 16, Penang)
Response
7: I haven't experience and don't have much
ideas bout the real situations of women staying in hostels and the challenges
thy meet there, but i strongly feel and experience that women safety in kl is
so scary nowadays! Own experience, even walking in brickfields also, there r
man approaching n saying " hi, im doing massage, r u interested " Not
to say the taxi drivers, and etc. (Female, 22, Kuala Lumpur)
Therefore, based on the responses collected, it is obvious
that, hostel for working ladies is necessary. This idea will be proposed to the
higher committee board for further discussion and progress.
