Sandakan the "Little Hong Kong"

On the 27th May 2016, my friends and I went on a short trip to Sandakan. We optioned for Sandakan then Kota Kinabalu for a change of scenary plus we want to explore what makes tourist from the other country to come and visit the former capital of British North Borneo which used to be called as "Little Hong Kong".

Sandakan is located on the eastern coast of Sabah facing the Sulu Sea and is 319 kilometer away from the capital of Sabah and the town population majority are Chinese, Bajau/Suluk, Kadazan-Dusun and Murut people.The non malaysian citizens are from the Southern Philippines.

The industry that generates the people of that town economy are commercial fishing and tourism. The town itself has its own port which is important for the export of hardwood and palm oil. When comes to the tourism section, Sandakan is known for the eco-tourism centres such as Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre and the Kinabatangan River.

Plus, for nature and bird lovers , the Sandakan Forest Research Centre is the perfect place to indulge the beauty of nature and away from the city hustle. Migration of birds of many species from different part of the world to the forest makes the centre a worth to visit in Sandakan.

Wanna taste what's like having an authenthic English high tea while overlooking Sandakan Bay , there's a famous western and fine dining restaurant in town which is the English Tea House and Restaurant suitable for those who are on honeymoon or a date to have a romantic dinner.

Sandakan is a beautiful city with alot of resources but due to the fact of increase of illegal immigrant from the Philippines post insecurity not just to the local people but to tourist. So walking down the streets in Sandakan is not a wise thing to do. Other than that, its a place worth visiting to.
