Vessel Layed Up at Pusan Inner Anchorage,South Korea

   I was onboard APL Detroit on the month of January 2016 undergoing my shipboard training service.We received message(e-mail) from company stated that my vessel APL Detroit need to go for laying up service at Pusan Inner Anchorage,South Korea for 2 and a half months.

   Message from office stated that this layed up process was decided for completion of vessel maintenance works in the time period given to produce more healthy and safe vessel due to upcoming Port State Control and Flag State Control inspection.

   Meanwhile, the vessel proceeding at South China Sea and the next port is Kwangyang,South Korea.Company discussed with captain and chief officer to discharge all the cargo at the 2 upcoming ports which is Kwangyang South Korea and Pusan New Port, South Korea.Vessel discharged all the cargo onboard . The vessel is now with no cargo onboard and prepared for laying up service.

  Then, vessel was proceeding oubound from Pusan New Port. So that, Captain and Okpo Vessel Traffic Service communicated and decided to anchor the vessel at the given position by Okpo VTS whereby it is just 2 miles off from the land.

  On 15th January 2016, vessel anchored at Pusan Inner Anchorage at 0230 Hours.As I and 2nd officer was on duty onboard bridge, Captain asked 2nd officer to perform anchor watch and I was designated on deck to maintain security & anchor chain leading lookout.

  After the vessel layed up at Pusan Inner Anchorage for the past 8 hours, captain asked chief officer to begin his maintenance work as what they planned earlier.On 15th January2016 1300 hours, all of our deck crew including Bosun, Deck Cadet,and all the AB was designated with each respective jobs given by chief officer.

   As the maintenace works are thoroughly going on each and every day, from 0700 hours to 1700 hours for period of 2 and a half months,all of the job which was planned by captain and chief officer are completed.Vessel was shining with new paint layers and all the maintenace was done with full of excellence. Vessel was shining like a new delivered vessel from the shipyard.

  As it is already been 1st of April 2016,vessel was required to resume the voyage service after 2 and a half montyhs of layed up service.The next port of loading is Pusan New Port. All of the shipboard personel was briefed clearly about the next port and what are the activities will be undergoing during alongside. Vessel safely picked up anchor on 1st April 2016 2000hours and started to proceed to the designated port.
